Guido's Pizzeria & Tapas Brings 30 Years of Pizza-Making Tradition to the 2019 STL Square Off

Updated: Jul 26, 2019

Guido's owner Miguel Carretero started making pizza in the kitchen with his mom as a young boy, rolling out Pillsbury dough by hand and covering it in house made sauce and toppings. By the time he was 19, Carretero, having spent several years working in restaurants, had purchased a place of his own and now, over three decades later, he's built one of the region's most popular lunch and dinner spots: Guido's Pizzeria & Tapas on the Hill.

Guido's is a family affair: Several days during the week and on the weekends, Segundo and Genevieve (Mama) can be found greeting patrons to the restaurant. Miguel is always busy at work cooking in the kitchen or managing the front-house. The restaurant uses family recipes brought to St. Louis from Madrid, Spain. Guido’s has a menu full of Classic Italian Fare and Traditional Authentic Spanish Entrées and Tapas, delivering a “Taste of Spain in the Middle of Italy.”

Guido's is unique among the contestants for being a place for delicious STL-Style Italian food but also a remarkable selection of Spanish tapas. A cuisine-fusion restaurant with lots of old-school charm and class!

You can taste Guido's competing pizza, a St. Louis-style thin crust topped with locally sourced sausage and crispy pepperoni, at the 2019 Square Off.
