Once again eight hand-selected pizza makers will go head-to-head ---”square off” -- for the title of “Best St. Louis-style Pizza” at the third annual St. Louis Square Off Pizza Festival on the Hill.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 22nd from 11:30am to 6:30pm at Berra Park (5400 Shaw Avenue). Tickets are limited and required to participate.
Each ticket holder gains entry to the Grand Piazza where you'll sample wine from around the world, local meats and cheeses from Volpi Foods, gooey butter cake and other favorite local foods. Then, ballot in hand, you can make your way to the pizza stands, where 8 pizzerias will "square off" for your affection. On the corresponding ballot ticket holders vote for their favorite, and the highest vote-getting pizza maker walks away with the 2019 title and trophy pizza peel. It’s a day of outdoor fun with live music and programmed activities for all ages!
Michael Powers, one of the event organizers and founders, describes it as “one big love letter to St. Louis.” Having lived in New Orleans for several years and seeing how local traditions, especially the food culture, was celebrated he wanted to bring that civic spirit back to St. Louis. So on September 22nd he invites the region to unremorsefully “pledge allegiance to provel” and celebrate our love of St. Louis-style pizza and our city!
Chosen pizza makers last year came from as far away as DeSoto, Missouri and as closeby as just blocks from the Berra Park festival grounds. Returning champion Cusanelli’s (Lemay) will defend their 2018 title. Other contenders include:
Guido's Pizzeria & Tapas, The Original Crusoe's, Dog House, The Sliced Pint, Schottzie's, The Tavern on Main and DB Cooper's Safe House.
Again this year there will be a Home Chef Pizza Baking Competition where amateur chefs square off live on stage with their homemade pizza recipes in hopes of wooing a panel of local celebrity judges.

That's right, all our 12 and under guests will get to try a variety of squares all day long. That's on top of the petting zoo, craft making, face painting and games. Your kids will be in HEAVEN at this year's pizza fest!
ABOUT: STL Square Off Pizza Festival is a ticketed event that crowns the king or queen of St. Louis-style pizza. launched in 2017 as a celebration of St Louis’ unique culinary culture, the Square Off provides an opportunity for the public to show their pride in our regional traditions.
